3 of the 5 Masterminds are made to fight a specific team, and the teams (X-Force and Marvel Knights) are extremely small. Professor X doesn't have a strong mechanic linking his cards together, and just doesn't feel great to play with for me, which is a huge dissapointment. The duds are less common and severe than most other expansions, but since the duds are on characters that I love, it stings extra. Obviously a great expansion, but it does have some drawbacks that early legendary has. I think it's a great expansion to have in order to get some good heroes and MMs in your arsenal. Punisher and Blade are strong heroes as well. Elektra sort of works on her own, but pair her with some Spiders from other sets and her uncommon gains more potential power. Nightcrawler is also fun, love the Teleport mechanic to build toward a powerful hand 2-3 turns down the line or avoid burning a decent attack card if you end up with a heavier recruiting hand or vice-versa. With Angel's Diving Catch card with Cyclops from the base and Jean's uncommon and rare makes for an incredible combo. Iceman is strong, Jean scales wonderfully, Angel is a great support hero. I like the X-Force team, and the X-men additions are so solid. Could get too easy sometimes, but makes for a good strategy decision of "do I sacrifice a decent recruit in order to defeat a villain or MM?" I like the Bribe adds a nice element to the game. Apocalypse and Kingpin are tough, but not too touch to go beyond the point of fun. I love the MMs here, if I'm not doing a randomizer, I'll go for one of these MMs usually. It's kind of the street-level set, kind of the X-Men expansion, kind of a mystical set, but definitely not one of them are the central theme. If Dark City suffers at all, I think it's from an image/focus perspective. Every one of these mechanics is an absolute winner, too. My personal favorites from this set are Iceman and Iron Fist, but I think Domino is an unsung winner too. It's just been outclassed on difficulty by some newer stuff (X-Men box, Epic MMs, etc.) And not just relevant but seriously missing pieces from Core, like Daredevil and Punisher.ĭark City used to be "the hard mode" box but these days, I think it's more like the Advanced box, though there's still plenty of challenge to be found here. No other box adds as many relevant characters to the mix. But it is the single expansion everyone who loves Legendary should own, if they can get it. #4 - Revelations #5 - Dimensions #6 - Venom #7 - Into the Cosmos #8 - Ant-Man #9 - MCU Phase 1 #10 - World War Hulk #11 - Champions #12 - Spider-Man: Homecoming #13 - X-Men #14 - Noir #15 - Captain America #16 - Civil War #17 - Deadpool #18 - Secret Wars Vol 2 #19 - Fear Itself #20 - Secret Wars Vol 1 #21 - Villains #22 - Guardians of the Galaxy #23 - Paint the Town Red #24 - Fantastic Fourĭark City is not my personal favorite expansion.
